7 Must Know Tips Before Getting Lip Filler Injections

Are you dying to plump your pout but feeling a little hesitant about lip injections? Not to worry; dermal fillers are an extremely safe and reliable option for achieving some seriously luscious lips.

Plumping up your lips with lip fillers doctor in the Sunshine Coast – Dr Ballantyne provides a precise solution to making significant yet natural facial enhancements that leave you looking and feeling proportioned, balanced and beautiful.

Lip fillers are very effective, but there are some essential steps you must follow before and after treatment.

Here are seven tips for you to know if you plan on getting treated with lip fillers:

No alcohol

Do NOT drink alcohol for at least 3-4 days before your appointment. Yes, that glass of Pinot is tempting, but you can count on a lot less bruising and bleeding if you resist the urge.

Don’t drink for at least 24 hours after your lip filler treatment. Alcohol causes inflammation, so your lips that are already swollen will only swell up more, and they’ll be even more uncomfortable. Instead, just rest up, relax and hydrate with some flavoured sparkling water.

Avoid certain medication

Don’t take any Ibuprofen, fish oils, garlic pills or Aspirin for at least seven days before your treatment. All of these things thin your blood.

Swelling is normal

Do you know that you may be slightly swollen for up to two days following your treatment? But you should also know that this is completely normal, and the swelling will dissipate.

Avoid touching your lips

Don’t massage your lips post treatment! They’ll be a bit firm and possibly bumpy for a week or so but just let them be. If you rub your plumped up lips, you risk moving the filler around, which could result in very undesirable results!

Elevate your head

Do prop yourself up with an extra pillow the night of your treatment. This will greatly aid in reducing swelling. Sleeping quasi-vertically certainly isn’t the most comfortable way to get your zzz’s, but you’ll be thankful for the less than ideal sleeping position the next morning.

Avoid exercise

Don’t exercise for at least 24 hours following treatment. Just tell your CrossFit coach you had food poisoning because let’s face it…he/she probably won’t understand the whole lip filler excuse.

Embrace arnica

Do take Arnica pellets 4x a day for at least four days following your treatment. Simply dissolve four pellets under your tongue and avoid coffee and mints for 30 minutes so the pellets can work their magic. These little miracle workers are available for purchase in our office or at your local health foods store.

Okay, now you’re officially ready for those dreamy, kissable lips! So say goodbye to that so-called “plumping” gloss, lip challenges, and over exfoliation; and say hello to your new voluminous lips!
